KERRY'S
Our first encounter with the Kerry dates back to 1991, when I was working on my final project for my dog grooming training. As I had never heard of this breed before, I was intrigued to find out more. I must say, it was love at first sight for both Kris and me. Since then, we have kept an eye on the Kerry at dog shows, observing its behaviour, charisma and appearance. Unexpectedly, we had the opportunity to adopt a dog, a hunting dog crossbreed, our “Dundee”. This meant we had to look for a house with a garden.
When we moved to our current home, we decided it was time to get a puppy, a female, our ‘Willow’ or Whirlwind Willow van Daelenbroek. She was the first Kerry to join our family in 1995.
Since then, the Kerrys have been in our blood. Willow was joined by Aengus (11). That was our first generation. Willow (12) produced a second generation, from which we kept Inish. Inish’s daughter, Britt, came back to live with us after five years. When Inish (16.5) passed away, Britt was inconsolable, and she was joined by Derrick (Ricky), who was then inconsolable when Brittje (14.5) passed away, so Rosie came along, and she was very sad when Ricky (7) passed away, and so Tulley came along…
And then we had to say goodbye to Rosie (8) again. Kerry’s don’t really like being alone, although of course they can cope. Tulley is doing very well on his own at the moment, so we’re keeping it that way for now so he can enjoy trips and holidays.
What will the future bring? Only the Kerry’s in the sky know… Time will tell… in Kerry’s time…
